Layers of Fear is a tale of a painter going mad. He’s had it rough and at one point decides to start a final ambitious project to fix everything, or destroy the little that’s left.

The game follows this project through the eyes of an artist slowly losing it. I highly recommend the game, there are a couple of jump scares but not too much to spoil the mood. It also doesn’t have too much playtime in it, maybe 6 hours, depends how much you explore and search for clues of your past etc. The game is meant to be experienced, not just to run through (that would be a lot faster than 6 hours).

Anyway, get it on sale and you will have a good run for your money.

Found out the Outlast2 Demo is out today. I’ve played through Outlast and the Whistleblower DLC so I had to try it right away. Not dissapointed.

It was scary as hell and although the setting was a bit different horrorwise and the demo was extremely short I think this could mount to something. I think it’s not going to be as good as the first game but I’ll be sure to play it through ’cause of the camcorder effects, enemies, brutality, lighting and just the sheer horror that makes you want to stop playing but you got to push on..

These screens were taken from the early part of the demo because after that for the last 5 minutes I really just wanted to run and hide, not take screenshots. 😀 But they give you an idea of the visuals and the horror style. *EDIT: Played again and was able to press F12 in a few more occasions.* :}

Alan Wake is  a game I put off for many years for no specific reason, I just had other games to play. But I’m glad I finally bought it for 5€ in some sale about two years ago. Played it later that year and well I wasn’t disappointed.

“The story follows best-selling thriller novelist Alan Wake, as he tries to uncover the mystery behind his wife’s disappearance during a vacation in the small fictional town of Bright Falls, Washington, all while experiencing events from the plot in his latest novel, which he cannot remember writing, coming to life.” -Wikipedia

Alan Wake is a good game. It’s not a game I remember for 10 years and feel like I want to forget it just so I could play it again. But it’s definitely good and worth playing. The game was and still is innovative in its use of light as a weapon alongside the other guns you can carry (Revolver, Shotgun, Pump Action Shotgun, Hunting Rifle, Flare Gun). You make the enemies (The Taken) weaker with your flashlight (that also is your ‘crosshair’) or any other available light source and then finish them off with a gun. Ammo is of course needed for the flashlight and Alan prefers using Energizer batteries found conveniently in sheds and houses.

The plot is fairly interesting and the controls are quite fluent and suitable for the exploration and combat style of the game. The plot makes you want to keep going and finish the game. There are some frustrating battle scenes but nobody’s perfect.

Considering the age of the game, it also looks pretty. And it’s actually a little scary too.

[DOOM gameplay on Ultra Violence @high GTX780] Glory kills and GORY kills!

Yeah I bought the new DOOM. Here’s some pretty cool action from that. First impressions if you will. Liking the old skool straight forward action!

ROTTR has some awesome lighting effects and incredible detail, the Foundation engine Crystal Dynamics uses on this game really bring the world to life.

The facial characteristics have always been above others in Square Enix titles such as this and the earlier TR and Hitman: Absolution (Sh*tty game otherwise IMO). Well I guess great lighting and shadows in games are just really normal nowadays and I’m just terribly old. But I don’t care! It makes taking beautiful screenshots an absolute joy! 🙂

Some other points about the game besides the visuals. It’s great fun. You get about 30 hours of gameplay from it without any DLC or post-plot exploring. The plot is pretty decent with it’s own twists and turns, it keeps you interested. You also have your basic collectibles, gun parts, crafting materials, tombs to raid and crypts to explore. The gameplay is also quite well constructed although there were a handful of bugs and glitches but they rarely affected my playing in a negative way. In my opinion the fighting and shooting was better in the reboot of 2013 but other than that I’d say these two are both equally enjoyable Tomb Raider games. A warm recommend from my part.

Here are some shots I considered cool:

Screenshot gallery: Metro 2033 Redux

I’ve already done a gallery from Last Light Redux from the Metro series and it’s a great game. So is Metro 2033 but the Redux version has been completely remade with upgraded weapons, graphics, level design and some story elements. So if you’ve played the first game, it’s still very worthwhile to get this one too.

Again the game is set in alternative future Moscow where a strange force/species is causing trouble to the people living in the metro tunnels. Still not going to spoil the story for you so you’re going to have to experience it yourself. 🙂

The gameplay is smooth and entertaining albeit a little tubey.. It doesn’t matter though, the atmosphere is more important in the Metro games. You have a choice in what weapons to use and how to modify them as well as a choice in whether to advance guns blazing or to choose a more subtle, stealthy approach.

Oh and almost forgot! The game is insanely pretty! So you need more than a potato to run it but an OC’d GTX 780 will do fine. 🙂 Here’s some proof:

Screenshot gallery: Metro: Last Light Redux

Metro: Last Light is a sequel to Metro 2033 and the Redux version is an updated version of the game. It has some graphical improvements as well as tweaks here and there. But unlike 2033 Redux, it hasn’t been completely remade so if you own Metro: LL you probably don’t get much out of this one. Strongly recommend the Redux version of the 2033 though!

I won’t give out the plot in case someone hasn’t played the games or read the books yet but I can say it’s very atmospheric and is set in alternative future Moscow. And as you can see from the screenshots, it’s also very pretty. I’ve replayed the series twice. It was fun.

Screenshot gallery: Alien Isolation

Interesting game. Scared the crap out of me. Pretty straight forward but fun and the Xenomorph AI is very good. Sometimes too good but they are of course cunning beasts so… You will die quite a bit of times.

The graphics and lighting are amazing and add up to the scary atmosphere very nicely. Hence the shots presented here.

If you don’t lose your sleep from scary stuff I definitely recommend this game. There are some jump scares but mostly the chills come from something lurking nearby…
